For Assemblee, programmers built games that used only art, sounds and fonts that were created specifically for the competition by other members of the TIGSource forums.

I’ve been spending a couple of days catching up on videogames released this year that I didn’t have time to play. Expect a few more game related posts soon.

Time Gentlemen, Please is an adventure game in the old-scholl tradition of the Lucasarts classics like Sam and Max, Day of the Tentacle and the Monkey Island series. The game, made by (and starring) Dan and Ben from Zombie Cow Studios is a follow up to their previous adventure title, Ben There, Dan That.

Time Gentlemen, Please is funny and silly, and unlike the games it references, full of wonderfully gross and dirty jokes. Like the Armando Iannucci film In The Loop, Time Gentlemen, Please proves that cussing is fun. Playing as Ben (and sometimes Dan) you are sent on an epic adventure though time to defeat Hitler and his army of Nazi dinosaurs, stop your future selves from stopping the invention of the coat-hanger, and other fun time-travelling mumbo-jumbo.

Time Gentlemen, Please also departs from the material it parodies and references in it’s puzzles. For the most part, they make sense, requiring very little random combination of items until something sticks, and clicking madly for interactive areas. As someone who usually can’t escape the first room of an adventure game without having to resort to a walkthrough, logical puzzles make for nice change.
